Zanzibar’s main roads are paved and generally in good condition. However, secondary roads — especially those leading to beaches on the east coast — can be bumpy and sandy. For this reason, we recommend an SUV like the Toyota RAV4, which handles both road types well. If you plan to drive during rainy season (April to May) or venture off-road frequently, the Toyota Prado offers more ground clearance and power.

In addition, we assist with the mandatory Zanzibar driving permit ($10) so you can drive legally and confidently across the island.
